A Saga's Spin-off, in Black and White

Anyone whose "grandmother name" (and, obviously, whose blog name) is "Moogie" must be a science fiction fan, right?  Absolutely, positively right!  And my interest extends way beyond Star Trek, Star Wars,  Isaac Asimov,  Robert Heinlein, and Orson Scott Card.

I also love bad, black and white, B-grade movies -- detective, horror, classic slapstick, early Sci-fi.  I cut my teeth on them at my Daddy's knee, then kept the tradition alive by forcing The Son to watch them on cable with me in the wee hours of the morning, thus warping him right along with me.

That's why stumbling across this video made my day!  It's rife with Star Wars references, sci-fi nuances (like time-space continuum stuff -- "not yet, anyway!"), and bad B-grade private eye dialogue.

I hope you get as big a kick out of "Ben Kenobi: Private Jedeye"
as I did.
Egad, I'm easily entertained!

Stolen from Bad Example.

  1. Well, I got HALFway thru it... But being as how I saw only the first Star Wars (and that in a country long ago and faraway, etc.) and none of the sequels... I quit. All the artful (I'm sure) references were going right over my head. One can only take just so many "hunh? what?" moments, yanno?

But the Richard Diamond vibe was quite nice.

That said... I was raised on a diet of sci-fi books and cheap-ass, oh-so-sleazy Nipponese sci-fi flicks, like any and every good child of the '50s. The new stuff leaves me cold, however. I wonder why that is?

  2. Exception: I NEVER missed an episode of MST3K. That '50s thang, yanno?

  3. You're gonna have to give me a hint on the MST3K thing.

  4. See my Sunday post (the one below today's) and all will become clear.

  5. Moogie, I don't know if there is an award for bad videos, kinda' like a Mr. Blackwell deal for YouTube or not.

But, this one would clearly be a front runner. Or whatever.

I must admit that I did like the old detective programs on TV, and I actually saw Star Wars. In a Movie House. I mean, the first Star Wars, not the ones they made before The First Star Wars (that's a screwy deal in my book). It was good, too. Indiana Jones was in it. Just sayin'...

So, if there's not an award yet for "Really worst production of the WORLD SINCE TIME BEGAN," we need to make us one. I'm putting this one in there right along with outclips from "Cujo," and highlights of the Dallas Cowboys' 2010 season.

    Thanks for sharing...

  6. The cheesier the better, Andy! I actually laughed out loud. And you're right -- it's right up there on the Blacke=well list of cheesy video.

Thanks, Buck -- I tried to post a comment on your Sunday post on my phone while waiting at the car dealership service phenomenon, but Blogger ate it. I'll head back over in a bit.
